Description
GridMatrix's innovative technology focuses on optimizing traffic flow to minimize wait times for all road users, including vehicles at traffic signals, buses at railway crossings, and pedestrians at crosswalks. By decreasing idle times caused by stoppages, the system contributes significantly to lowering emissions, as idling vehicles are responsible for releasing over 30 million tonnes of CO2 each year. Achieving zero emissions from idling is equivalent to removing 6.5 million passenger cars from the streets of the United States. Rather than constructing additional roads to accommodate rising population and vehicular demands, municipalities can enhance the efficiency of their existing roadways through GridMatrix’s advanced real-time software platform. Furthermore, cities are striving for zero traffic fatalities, and GridMatrix's solutions can play a pivotal role in reaching this goal. Enhancing traffic flow not only improves overall movement but is also linked to a decrease in accidents, as GridMatrix’s analytical tools can effectively identify problematic intersections with high rates of collisions, allowing for targeted interventions. In this manner, the integration of GridMatrix’s technology not only benefits transportation efficiency but also promotes public safety and environmental sustainability.
Description
SCOOT operates as an advanced proactive system that modifies traffic signal settings in real-time to accommodate vehicles approaching intersections. In contrast, alternative systems rely on data from departing traffic, which results in timing changes that are often implemented too late to achieve optimal effectiveness. At the core of SCOOT lies an online traffic simulation model that evaluates a variety of potential timing adjustments in real-time, selecting the most efficient option. Other systems typically make modifications based on set parameter thresholds, such as traffic volumes or the number of arrivals on green, which restricts them to a single potential adjustment without prior effectiveness testing. SCOOT, on the other hand, consistently optimizes cycle length, splits, and offsets with each cycle by executing small, controlled modifications. Many alternative systems opt for larger adjustments on a much longer schedule, sometimes up to every 10 minutes, and some do not even optimize cycle length at all. Consequently, these other systems are significantly less adept at responding to the rapidly fluctuating conditions of traffic. This responsiveness makes SCOOT particularly advantageous in urban environments with dynamic traffic patterns.
